I didn’t think I had time…

I had a really busy day today. I did not intend for it to be like that but it just kept building, one thing on top of another. In the middle of a meeting at noon with a business partner, my cell phone rang. I ignored it, and the same person called again, and again and again. I finally called the number back and it was a lady from our West of 50 group. She has been trying to sell her house, and has asked me a few times to help her. Sunday she came to me and said she might have an interested person looking this week and if they wanted to buy it could I help her with the paperwork. So in the middle of my meeting, which happened in the middle of a very busy day, she called and said, “I really need you to come now because someone is wanting to buy the house”. So I went and met her, filled out the paper work and was sitting waiting for the buyer to return with the deposit check. As I sat there, I thought I really don’t have time for this. I still had to go pick up a check from a client and get it to the bank so it would post today, and still had several other things to do. So I thought I really don’t have time.

Just as I had those thoughts of frustration, she said, “Ray you will never know how much this means to me. I really appreciate you helping me get this done before tomorrow. You see, tomorrow (Thursday) she goes into the hospital for fairly serious cancer surgery. She needed to get this house thing off her mind before that.

The people arrived, we went over the paperwork, they finished the deal. I left and as I was driving down the street the Lord spoke to me that this was the most important thing I could have done today with my time. It sure didn’t seem spiritual, we didn’t have prayer, I didn’t read a scripture, I didn’t even take up an offering, but it dawned on that during the last 45 minutes I had been used of the Lord in ministry to a precious sister, who had big needs in the face of a difficult time. And you know what? I got everything else done today too.

I wonder how many times I miss the opportunity before me to be a minister to the needy and hurting. I drove on to my next appointment thinking that if I am going to live on the HIGH ROAD, I probably should be a little bit more sensitive. I really want to be!!

Lets live on the HIGH ROAD.

P.S. (Can you put a p.s. on a blog?) Check out Nate’s new blog at ncbrewster.wordpress.com. Good job Nate.
