Laughter … How much do you laugh?

We’ve all quoted or heard quoted at some time in our lives the verse from Proverbs 17:22 that says “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones”.

When you are dealing with the daily supply of stuff that comes your way, sometimes there may not be a lot to laugh about or be merry about. That seems to be my experience recently. I was really feeling that way today when I started talking to a person who used to work for Hospice as a Nurses Assistant. She was referring to a mutual friend who has cancer and stated that the stress of her (the cancer patient) situation has her really discouraged and we talked about what stress will do to a person.

She told me a story they used to tell the Hospice workers where she worked, of a man who was given 30 days to live because of cancer. He decided to rent a bunch of funny movies and hired a nurse and checked himself into a hotel, and spent the 30 days watching funny movies and laughing over them. At the end of the 30 days he went to the Dr and his cancer was gone.

It just proves the point that a merry heart does do good like a medicine. So I thought of that as I left our conversation and I decided I may take life too seriously, so I began to think of funny things in my life that made me laugh, and I laughed again. I thought about one incident at Steve’s graduation from Southwestern and I laughed, and just laughed again as I wrote this. If you know Steve you may want to ask him about it.

Laughter is a good thing and I need to laugh more … how about you?

Let’s all live and laugh on the HIGH ROAD.

  1. you are awesome. and laughter does make us feel better regardless –if only this would come to us more often. Lord may we laugh more and worry less

  2. wow…i still laugh about that day too. We made a memory.

  3. Yes that was a funny time. “What is he doing, he doesn’t belong up there, oh crap…look at him he knows he messed up.” and yes those were my exact words.

  4. Here’s one you can laugh at. The other day I was trying to gather up all the things I needed to take with me. I was going to 4 different places before I made it back home again and needed to bring several things along. In hopes of remembering all these items I was concentrating very hard. I turned off my TV and began collecting them. I got out to my car to put everything in there and go on my way and I relaized that I had left with my remote control.

I ask, What good is life if you can’t laugh at yourself, because you know everyone else is!
